Frequently Asked Questions

What counts as a dental emergency?

Severe pain, a knocked-out or broken tooth, significant swelling, a lost crown or filling causing pain, or trauma to the mouth all warrant a prompt call. When in doubt, call us and we will help you decide.

Can a knocked-out tooth be saved?

Often, yes, if you act fast. Keep the tooth moist (in milk or back in the socket), avoid touching the root, and get to us as quickly as possible. The sooner we see you, the better the chance of saving it.

What should I do for a severe toothache?

Rinse with warm water, gently floss to remove any trapped debris, and use a cold compress for swelling. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever as directed and call us promptly so we can find and treat the cause.

What if I have an emergency after hours?

Call our office at (916) 961-3760 for instructions. For life-threatening symptoms such as difficulty breathing or swallowing, severe swelling, or major trauma, go to the nearest emergency room or call 911.
