Dental Sealants in Fair Oaks

A simple, protective shield that helps keep cavities out of back teeth.

The chewing surfaces of your back teeth are full of tiny grooves where food and bacteria collect and toothbrush bristles cannot always reach. Dental sealants are a thin, protective coating painted into those grooves to seal out decay.

Sealants are especially valuable for children and teens as their permanent molars come in, but cavity-prone adults can benefit too. The treatment is fast, comfortable, and requires no drilling or anesthesia.

How sealants are applied

Applying a sealant is simple. We clean and dry the tooth, apply a gel to help the sealant bond, rinse and dry again, then paint on the sealant and harden it with a curing light. The whole process takes only a few minutes per tooth and is completely comfortable.

How long do sealants last?

Sealants can protect teeth for several years. We check them at your regular visits and can quickly reapply or touch up a sealant if it wears down, so your protection stays intact.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are sealants only for children?

No. While they are most common for children and teens, adults without decay or fillings in their back teeth can also benefit from sealants.

Do sealants replace brushing and flossing?

No. Sealants add a layer of protection, but daily brushing, flossing, and regular cleanings are still essential.

Can you put a sealant over a small cavity?

Sealants are for healthy tooth surfaces. If there is already decay, we will treat it first, then protect the tooth as appropriate.
